Graveyard Shift

This collage is the Open Concept collage with all appropriated imagery. The idea I had for this collage was to replicate a college party but in a place you would not normally party, hence the graveyard. This piece was meant to be humorous hence the skeletons drinking, passed out, playing beer pong, and screaming with party hats on. I also included a loner in the background which you tend to see in some parties. This collage was a piece for me to take a step back and de-stress from the busy semester and just have fun with Photoshop. I only needed to incorporate 10 appropriated images to meet the requirements but I had so much fun with this that I got carried away and included well over 10.

Girl With A Pearl Earring

My minor is in Art History so when introduce to this project I immediately knew which painter and painting I wanted to do. The painter I chose was Johannes Vermeer and his painting Girl With A Pearl Earring. Some brief history on this piece was that the girl was often seen as a symbol of purity and beauty. Vermeer was also known to use the paint color Ultramarine which was a very expensive paint that was made out of lapis lazuli stone. Vermeer mixed in chalk with the paint in a few areas of the painting as well.

Knowing all of this I decided to photograph myself and try to replicate the paintings turban but in my own way. I put my hair up into a headscarf, which I changed to a blue color in Photoshop and let my blonde braids come out the back to represent the yellow part of the turban. I included many symbols of purity around myself including angel wings, doves, lilies, and rose petals. I also included lapis lazuli heart stones and a lapis lazuli stone necklace around my neck. I made sure to include the big pearl earring and to incorporate images of the paints he used and a paint brush swatch. On top of everything is a chalkboard overlay to represent the chalk he used in this painting.
